Rogers
Rogers is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications.
In November 2004 Rogers purchased Fido and became the largest Canadian cell phone company in terms of subscribers, a title that Bell took temporarily after their acquisition of Virgin Mobile in 2009. Rogers has since regained their first place standing, having also acquired chatr, Cityfone, and Mobilicity as subsidiary brands under its operation.
A number of companies also operate as Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) on the Rogers network, including 7-Eleven SpeakOut Wireless, Petro-Canada Mobility, Primus Wireless, and Sears Connect. In October 2016 Rogers reached the 10 million milestone – being the first Canadian carrier to attain that many postpaid and prepaid subscribers.
The Rogers network has offered LTE coverage in major cities across Canada since 2011, and 4G HSPA+ network speeds for 90% of Canadians. Extended Coverage provides LTE speeds in select areas and is available to Rogers postpaid wireless customers with a compatible device and data roaming enabled.
Rogers has a Connection Fee (Activation Fee) of $30, however this fee can be waived by activating or renewing online (excludes new activations).
