Rogers Wireless is one of the most popular cell phone carriers in Canada, but it’s important to note that not all of their plans come with long distance calling.
While of Rogers’ cell phone plans come with calling to the U.S., you’ll have to pay additional fees to place international calls. Rates vary depending on the country.

Compared to Bell and TELUS, Rogers Wireless’ international pay-per-use rates are slightly pricier for certain countries. For example, while Bell and Telus charge $1.50/min to make calls to India and China from Ontario, Rogers charges $3.50. However, all three phone carriers charge $2.50/min to call Poland. Overall, Rogers tends to be pricier than Bell and Telus for some countries.

Rogers offers two different long-distance add-ons:
- U.S. & International for $5/month.
- Customers can make calls to the U.S. as well as over 100 more countries for a standard price per minute.
- Customers can save up to 98% on international calls with this plan.
- The price per minute varies by country, but the plan comes with unlimited text, picture, and video messages.
- U.S. Calling for $15/month.
- This plan comes with unlimited calling from Canada to anywhere in the U.S.
- If any other long-distance calls are made, the rates are rounded up to the next minute.
Other Rogers International Calling Options from Ontario
Paying for international calls from Ontario can add up fast, but in this day and age, there are plenty of other options for communicating globally that surpass traditional routes. If you’re looking for other ways to call your friends and family internationally, there are a few apps that make this possible — all you need is a Wi-Fi connection.
Certain apps allow you to make calls using the internet, including:
- Snapchat
- FaceTime
Using these apps means that you don’t have to pay for an Ontario phone plan that includes international calls, which will save you a lot money.
Another way to make international calls is by purchasing an international calling card. Some calling card companies offer rates as low as $0.02/minute, which may be a great option if you make international calls often.
Rogers Wireless Cell Phone Plans in Ontario
In Ontario, you can choose between two different types of Rogers plans:
- Unlimited Canada-wide calling
- Canada + U.S.
It’s important to note that neither of these types of plans include international calls to anywhere else besides the U.S. and Canada. If you need to make calls to countries other than the U.S. and Canada, you will need to either pay as you go or purchase a Rogers add-on.
Unless you have a reason to make calls to the U.S. from Ontario, you’re better off sticking with an Unlimited Canada-wide plan. The Canada + U.S. plans are more expensive, and you will be dishing out around $20/month extra than you would with a Canada-wide plan.
